The board is made up with playfield graphic and missile graphic. The horizontal line is the playfield and the vertical line is the missile graphic.

wait when did you get your first atari 2600? if it was in 1977 then you broke an EXTREAMLY EXTREAMLY EXTREAMLY EXTREAMLY RARE AND I MEAN MORE RARE THEN E.T. COMMING INTO YOUR HOUSE AND CHALLENGING YOU TO A BATTLE (AND WINNING) THEN PHONEING HOME WITH ONE OF THOSE OLD BRICK CELL PHONES THEN YOU FINDING A COMUNICATOR FROM STARTREK TOS AND GETTING BEAMMED UP TO THE ENTERPRISE… ATARI 2600!!!

False. I’ve googled and found nothing to support this claim. Tie-Tac-Toe can be 3×3, 4×4, 5×5, 3×3x3, 4×4x4, or any other variation.
This game has amazing graphics.
No really, I’m serious. The Atari TIA can only generate a 40×200 resolution screen, and yet this game is being displayed in 320×200 resolution!
How on earth is that possible? I wish I could get a look at the source code, so I could see what amazing tricks this programmer performed to get 8 times the resolution. It blows my mind – it shouldn’t be possible to exceed 40×200.

can you actually break your (rare) atari by playing an game like this? i don’t think i play it cause i don’t wanna break my atari if i ever get one
or you are the one that misses. the opinion of a game is still personal.
It is possible to get a tie, but it MUCH, MUCH more difficult to get one. In regular Tic-Tac-Toe, it’s easy, but in this one, it pretty hard and kind of rare.
In fact, it’s so rare that ties are said to be planned.
No, actually it’s the chess game by Atari that does that.
I’m not making it up, due to a programming bug it sometimes disturbes pieces if you’re playing in the higher difficulty levels!
Whelps, here is CGR’s first miss. This game SUCKS. Only game I have not agreed with his opinion. Oh well. This is a freakin gold mine.

Great game for those who like strategy games (like me).
I could rather easily beat it at the lower levels. 50/50 with the mid levels, and never beat it at the upper levels. I don’t think I would ever beat level 8 in a hundred years!
What’s fun, though, if you have 2 Atari consoles and 2 3-D tic tac toe cartridges, is to play level 8 against level 8. That way one of them FINALLY has to lose! (Hmmm, but you know how there can be ties in regular tic tac toe? Wonder if ties are possible here)
